Wales 2026 Day 4 Part 1

Well of yesterday's fun on Anglesey we decided to head to RSPB Ynys-Hir, however the reserve was shut!! Pretty outrageous that they just shut the reserve for two days evey week! Fair enough close the visitor center, the bogs and the hides, but all reserves should be open to members 24/7 365 days unless for conservation reasons!! Rant Over!! Anyway Ynys-hirs loss was Ynyslas National Nature Reserves gain, we parked on the beach, this was a lovely place, massive sand dunes and a huge beach, still sunny but there was a cold wind. Some waders along the shore, Dunlin and Ringed Plovers, couple of Oystercatchers and a flock of 20 Bar-tailed Godwits flew up the river!

The Dune system is quite impressive

Wide open beaches and no dogs, hurrah!

We decided to head up to the Dyfi Wildlife Centre – Cors Dyfi famous for the Ospreys of which we had good but distant views of, I refused Margie's outrageous suggestion that I take pictures off the big screens, though regretting my principles looking at my crap pics! The reserve is also good for warblers and we heard a couple of Grasshopper Warblers, Willow Warblers and Sedge Warblers!

Idris the male Osprey!

Reed Bunting

Sedge Warbler

Willow Warbler

A very nice wander around, we decided to indulge in a bit of cake and a cup of coffee, a nice window seat in the cafe, I was very much enjoying the gluten free Chocolate Brownie, absentmindedly looking out of the window, when movement on the boardwalk caught my eye, I was just thinking that's the biggest Stoat I've ever seen when the animal stood up against a small dead hedge and turned to face me revealing a lovely cream chest, Pine Martin😲😲In broad daylight!!!!😲😲😲My first ever one!!  Margie spun round to see it's hind quarters and tail disappearing into the undergrowth!!! We gathered our Cameras and bins and hurried out but there was no sign!! 😢 Apparently one had been filmed during the night on a remote camera!! Well Chuffed an absolute WOW moment!! We headed off to our next destination, as we drove along I realised that in all the excitement I'd left the two very expensive bars of chocolate on the table!!!!! No!!!!!!😢😢😢😢😂
