Weirwood

A Short visit to Weirwood Reservoir this morning, basically a diversion from visiting Plawhatch Organic Farm Shop where we spent quite a bit of dosh on Organic treats!!

We visited the Dam end first, where the highlight was lots of Swifts, Swallows and Housemartins feeding low over the water, this meant I could renew my efforts in trying to get pictures of them, which usually ends in pretty abject failure as evidenced by my "best efforts" below!!😢

Swift

Magpie taken by mistake when a Swift buzzed it but came out quite well😀

Yes pretty pants pics but always fun trying!! Nice to be surrounded by Swifts again means summers here although you couldn't tell by the weather😲!!
Other bits and pieces seen at the Dam end were, a Grey Wagtail, Marsh Tit, Common Whitethroat , a fledgling Robin, heard only Garden Warbler and the only one I managed pics of a few Pied Wagtails

We relocated to the Hide end, where if anything it was even quieter, though plenty of Great Crested Grebes on the water, a couple even had a bit of a dance!

All a bit distant though, as were the Common Terns squabbling over the rafts, maybe next year one of the rafts could be relocated nearer the hide? Not sure why it couldn't be? Luckily one of the birds took a turn around the water (see what I did there😄) and gave a reasonable fly past!!

Common Tern

A Heron followed the Terns example and also gave a flypast, which was considerate of it.

Even turned round and gave us a view of it's other side!!

A Mallard flew past and a Kestrel flew out of the trees along the bank and went straight across the water, at which point it started raining so we went home!!!

On arrival home we discovered both Osprey and Black Tern had been seen at the Reservoir earlier in the day, Duh!!! Well I never saw em!!😢😂
