Wales 2024 PT2

With the weather improving, although it still tried to drench us a couple of times, we headed south first stopping a RSPB Ynys-hir one of my favourite reserves, sadly a bit late for Pied Flys, Wood Warblers and Redstarts but still a nice walk around, highlights being a Spotted Flycatcher and Goosanders on the river.

Some of Margie's pics below

Some magnificent trees on the reserve

The views are pretty good

Don't let the fence fool ya we were totally at their mercy!

So after a nice walk around we headed up to Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest Visitor Centre to watch the Red Kite feeding, this is always exciting as hundreds of Kites gather, though only a few seemed to get any grub. It gives a good opportunity to watch these magnificent birds doing their thing at close range, allowing for some excellent photo opportunities where even someone with my low level of skill has chance for some good pictures!
Now there is a school of thought that you can have too many Red Kite pics, however luckily it's not a school of thought I agree withπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ A few of Margie's scene setters mixed in to break them up a bit!!

Sparrow at the visitor center where we enjoyed Sweet Potato, Chipotle bowl thingy which was very nice, seems the visitor center's future is in doubt the usual lack of funds the problem, seems a shame as it is very nice, not sure if the Red Kite feeding is going to be stopped?

Chaffinch

The Kites are a gathering

Small sample of Kites captured by Margie

Goosander, awaiting the feast, there were 3 waiting to mop up dropped morsels, last time we came there were at least 8, but that was later in the year so maybe numbers will build

Little Grebe

So the food arrived and the Kites swept in grabbing the food and zooming about the place!

Red Kite

Lesser Black-backed Gull a few about trying to grab a snack

With the food gone we headed back to the car, looking out over the valley, couple of Ravens flew over and some of the departing Red Kites rode the wind!

We headed back north, stopping at Ynyslas National Nature Reserve for a walk on the beach, quite a few people but a nice showy Rock Pipit entertained.

With the birding quiet, I turned to my more adventurous side. Ok it's not me!!!!

A pretty full and enjoyable day!
