Warnham Local Nature Reserve

Well after walking approximately 1000 miles yesterday for very few birds, we decided today to head for Warnham, where generally you get a lot more birds per mile, it also doesn't open until 10 so we can have a bit of a lie in, which is a big selling point for Margie!!! 😏We arrived at 10.05 and paid the £4 each entry fee, I thought it would be busy and the car park was half full already, think the cloudy and cold weather probably put some people off! After negotiating the Swan family guarding the path we headed to the first lot of feeders where the highlight was a nice Redpoll!

We didn't linger long here heading to the larger hide following rumours of Brambling! No sooner had we taken our seats when a cracking male Brambling alighted on the feeder! I generally don't like feeder shots and I've tried to avoid them, but sometimes it's all I got!

Brambling, a stunner!

The Brambling departed and we started to see what else was on on offer, the most obvious critters present were the Rats several large beasties running about, don't mind em meself but others not so keen!
There were also a fair few birds, with Siskin, Goldfinch, Blue,Great and Long-tailed Tit, Reed Bunting,
Greenfinch, Robin, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Nuthatch and another less gaudy Brambling amongst the highlights

After spending far to long in the hide we went for a walk around the reserve, bit quieter away from the feeders but a Jay eating a frog and several types of Fungi were of interest and Margie was stalked by a Robin!😲

Still with us

Wondering how we are going to stop him getting in the car! Margie felt he was trying to tell us something, possibly that she should buy me more chocolate

Think this is a Fungi rather than a poop

Popped into the hide overlooking the lake, no Kingfisher, a couple of Pochard and a few Tufties the best of it!

We headed back to the big hide, where the star bird showed well again!

Moorhen outside the hide

On the way back we stopped off at the small hide again. three more Brambling here but loitering in the leaf litter so pics difficult! Was also a Bullfinch and a Coal Tit, which added a bit to the variety on show!

Brambling in the leaf litter, the colouration makes more sense now!

We stopped off in the hide next to the Discovery Hub, but not much on show Egyptian Goose and Gulls the best of it!

A very nice three hours, I've always liked Warnham the chance to get up close to birds like Brambling, Redpolls and Siskins is special, though in these days of avian flu, leg lesions and Trichomoniasis it may not be prudent for such large feeding stations to be operating! Plus the Rats!!
