The Journey Home

With an early ferry to catch we were up and out by 7.05 am, the drive was uneventful though a Woodcock flushed up from the side of the road was of interest, the 2nd one we'd seen on Mull.  No Owls though, which I was hoping for! We arrived at the ferry terminal in time for Sunrise which was quite nice!

The weather was lovely, typical!! Gets nicer now we are leaving!! We wrapped up warm and stayed outside for the whole 50 minute trip, the scenery is fantastic, a pod of what I think are Common Dolphins appeared and various birds were about, pictures with labels below!

Always nice to start with a Shag, probably the most common Seabird we've seen on Mull

Great Northern Diver a bird we saw plenty of.

Herring Gull

Shag shaking it's ass!

Ole green eyes

Goodbye to Mull 😢

The mist draped around the mountains

Was that a Dolphin?

Yep

Think the two-tone colouring in this pic suggests Common Dolphin

Flyby Diver

This looked amazing, more than the pics show

Eider, expected to see a few more of these

Male and Female together

Oban approaching

Couple of Black Guillemots

Red-throated Diver

A cold but fitting end to our time on Mull, lovely to see Dolphins!! We hit the road getting home just before 8pm making it a near 13 hour journey. Though we did stop for a while at Tebay services for Dinner and I spent too much money on Brownies, Florentines and Macarons!! The latter being sensational!!!

Margie managed a picture of her strawberry Macaron, my Blueberry one didn't survive long enough for pics!!
For a pretty spur of the moment trip, it's been excellent Eagles and Otters the obvious stars but I always enjoy the plentiful Divers and Wildfowl in and around the Scottish Islands!!!
