Review of the Year 2021 Part 3 Autumn!

I know what you're thinking WTF happened to Summer, well as every birder knows there is no such thing as summer with Spring migration ending on  July31st and  Autumn  migration starting August 1st!! 😂 Many Birders like to concentrate on insects at this time of year and while I'm fond of  Butterflies, Dragonflies and other Insects, I can't really get motivated to get into it in a meaningful way! Luckily as said Autumn migration had kicked in, so spent much of the month at the coast, with a couple of trips to Seaford, Medmerry, a windy one at Newhaven, a great walk from Southease to Newhaven and a trip to Pagham Harbour!! Plenty of Wheatears and Whinchats going through a few good Waders, a self found Pied Flycatcher and probably the highlight of the month a Wryneck!

So a pretty good year considering all the restrictions and us trying to be greener! Hard to pick a bird of the year, the Golden Eagle sighting in Scotland was a definite highlight as was the Iceland Gull in Ullapool Harbour! The Poms going past Splash Point would also be up there, All 3 divers at point blank range was also a great day, maybe the Whinchat I found a couple of miles from the house should be up there as should the local Yellowhammers who have saved the day on numerous trudges around the local patch!
