Hurst Walk

Bit different today as due to an aching back, I decided to leave the camera at home, felt it was unlikely would miss many great photo ops as was a very grey day!

We walked through The Grange to Langton Lane down passes the Dung Heap then looped around the Turkey Farm and back down the lane.

As expected didn't see many birds, a lone Stonechat on a hedge and a big Tit flock in Langton Lane the best of it, stopping at the Dung Heap we were in for a shock!! It had gone😲😲😲!! There is hope however as one steaming load suggests it may be rebuilt!! There were still a few birds in the area though with a couple of Pied Wagtails and about 12 Meadow Pipits wandering about where the heap had been!! Saw quiet a few Meadow pipits flying about randomly on our walk. A flock of Gulls mainly Black-headed and a few Herring Gulls were at the bottom of the field.

The missing Dung Heap

Pics taken on me phone, hopefully the heap will be rebuilt pretty quick as it is an important resource for the birds, several species overwintered here last year, Pied and Grey Wagtail, Robins, Dunnocks and Blackbirds and even had several Snipe in and around it!

The rest of the walk was fairly quiet, a couple of Buzzards in a tree but distant, couple of Jays, small flock of Goldfinch. A very red climbing plant in the hedge was nice, but guessing it's not native? Saw a a few mushrooms as well!

We arrived back at the Dung Heap, I was scanning for Pipits when the whole Gull Flock took to the air in panic, always good when this happens to scan the skies, though it's usually a dog-walker!! Not today though, Peregrine, although it showed no interest in the gulls but just loped through like they do sometimes, an adult Female by the size of it, annoyingly would have presented a reasonable photo-op although the grey day meant probably wouldn't have been that great pics anyway!! My back was grateful for the break!! We headed home, a small group of warblers in a tree turned out to be Blackcap and a couple of Chiffchaffs and a large flock of noisy Starlings the only other highlights. Nice to  see 3 Greenfinch high in a tree in our road as well, hopefully they will visit the feeders soon!

So no pics today, but I'm doing my calendar again this year, I do it every year at cost price, which depends on the amount sold, I'm at 34 copies so far which works out at about £3.40 a copy, last year we donated some excess monies to the local Hedgehogs, only £24 so don't get to carried away!!

The pictures can be seen at the link below all taken by me, except one by Margie can you guess which? in the last year! Some are cropped in a bit tighter on the calendar than they appear here. If you want copy let me know ASAP as need to get em ordered in the next couple of weeks

Well having walked 4 miles I felt I deserved a large slice of  the Organic Cheesecake I made yesterday so I had one!!😀
