A lovely day, a walk to Talisker Beach, once again superb scenery and some cracking birds seen, including Twite, Redpoll, Bullfinch, Shag, Great Northern Diver, Cuckoo, Common Sandpiper, Golden Eagle and a Whale which admittedly is not a bird, but was still awesome !! We also found a beautiful waterfall!!
| Margie got some pics of the stunning scenery |
| Margie is convinced this looked like a Dragon! |
| I forgot about the Wheatear, notwithstanding Margies, Dragon hallucinations another sign she is losing the plot is she actually said you can have too many pics of Wheatears!!! I know outrageous!!! |
| Redpoll, lovely to watch them feeding and gathering nesting material |
| This one actually flipped over backwards |
| Song Thrush |
| Different Wheatear |
| Hooded Crow |
| Meadow Pipit |
| Twite, unfortunately flushed by a young couple who practically trod on em, I was cursing the missed opportunity, shouldn't have spent so long with the Redpolls |
| More Shags than I can handle |
| Great Northern Diver |
| Another different Wheatear |
| Rock Pipit |
| Dunlin |
| Sanderling |
| Ringed Plover |
| Meadow Pipit |
Whilst scanning from the beach, I picked up a Minkie Whale crossing the bay, it was quite hard getting pics but I managed a couple!
It was a fantastic sighting and exciting waiting for it to break the surface! Some of Margie's pics from the beach area!
| The tension built as Margie tried to get the boat right in the gap! |
| Peacock, not something I was expecting to see, there were several about |
| Redpoll |
| House Sparrow |
| Cuckoo, were at least 3 calling but pics were at a premium |
| Common Buzzard |
| Redpoll |
| Bullfinch |
| Fish |
| Chiffchaff |
| Young Sparrow begging for food |
We walked back to the car, it was really hot now, we had a drink and something to eat, we were contemplating where to go next when I noticed a couple of large birds above the nearby ridge Golden Eagles!! Hurrah!!
| Golden Eagle |
They really are awesome to watch though would have liked em a bit closer!
We headed off, taking in more scenery, stopping where there was a chance of some action, we saw a sign for the Fairy Pools, but the carpark was packed and what we could see from the road the crowds looked horrendous so we gave it a miss, which turned out to be a good decision as we found our own admittedly slightly smaller waterfall further on but it was very beautiful
| Common Sandpiper |
| Dipper nest, saw the occupant a couple of times, but was too quick for pics |
| White-tailed Eagle, one of a pair flying a way from us |
A stunning place, some videos of the waterfall below, small but perfectly formed!
Another fantastic day, the Eagles and the Whale will live long in the memory and the Waterfall was a beautiful finish to our activities!!!!
