So in search of Puffins we decided to head South and catch the Ferry to the Isle of May, unfortunately, I hadn't done my research, I had assumed that Ferry meant regular trips to the island to drop people off several times a day, turns out it was a Farne Island type trip, once a day and unfortunately on this day it went at 9.15AM and we didn't arrive to 10.30AM OOPS😀So instead we had a wander around the harbour of Anstruther, I scoped the sea in the hope of a loafing Puffin without success, though did have some bits and pieces fly through.
The Isle of May, sadly not for us this trip!😢 |

We stopped off at a nice farm shop for lunch, where I bought a nice Gluten Free Brownie and some Black marmalade! Next we headed to Morton Lochs nature reserve. This was a very picturesque reserve, highlights were yet another Red Squirrel and a Kingfisher, which flew about a lot but absolutely refused to settle in range despite the brilliantly positioned sticks in front of the hide!
Common Whitethroat |
Pheasant |
Grey Heron |
Gadwall |

After this we decided to check out Tentsmuir Beach, an amazing place which we had pretty much all to ourselves, I've been on more picturesque beaches but not on bigger!!!
It all looked pretty birdless, but then I found a small flock of Sanderling on the beach which was fun!! A few Wagtails and Skylarks in the Dunes as well!
Willow Warbler, so many Willow Warblers! |
Pied Wagtail |
Great Black-backed Gull |
Sanderling |
Looks like its only got one foot! But seemed mobile enough! |
Reed Bunting |
After a disappointing start, a very nice day, always enjoy a Seawatch, another Red Squirrel and the Beach will definitely live long in the memory!!
