Scotland 2025 Day 2 Staying Local

03/05/2025

Today we decided, after yesterday's epic journey, to stay local, so went for a walk along Carnoustie Beach, sunny weather again although the wind kept the temperature down. Bit  quiet, managed to winkle out a couple of Whimbrels and the local Oystercatchers showed well, plenty of Starlings, Sparrows and Pied Wagtails along the foreshore and a few Linnets.

Random Tramp on the beach, oh wait that's me!

House Sparrow, nice to see they seem to be doing well!

In the afternoon we headed north and visited Scurdie Ness Lighthouse, very windy now! But it paid off a large amount of Terns were feeding at the head of the river, most I've managed to ID were Common Terns but if anyone can turn one into an Arctic from the pics, be much appreciated!  Bird of the day was a Dark Phase Arctic Skua which was harassing the Terns but annoyingly headed off North before I could get close enough for decent pics! Lots of Gannets diving into the sea and loads of Gulls in a feeding frenzy. Good views of Eiders as well!!

Wind blown, we decided to head off, brief stop at the Montrose Basin, but seemed little about from the visitor center so we headed back to base, pretty good day all in all!
